Why didn’t the the vaudeville comedy duos do a 50/50 split?

Because one of the jobs was harder.

Classic split was 60 for the straight man, 40 for the funny man.

Because it is harder to be the straight man.

The job was to give contrast the the funny man by being completely serious.
