Joel Salatin, a leader in sustainable modern farming talks about sovereignty. He doesn’t want employees, he wants to work with other sovereign crafts people who own their work.

My paternal grandparents were like this. They owned a farm and worked hard together. Within that, it was understood that the chickens, and the egg money, was my grandmother’s. She had sovereignty, although she wouldn’t have used that term, over how the chickens were cared for, how the eggs were sold and what she did with the money.

There are all sorts of risk and trials to being a solopreneur, but to me the feeling of sovereignty is one of the benefits.
